Mainly about the Query Designer

This book is the best book currently available about SAP BI reporting. That said, other books on this topic (mainly by Norbert Egger) aren't particularly convincing. So there isn't much competition. Besides as another reviewer mentioned, it is much cheaper.

Peter Jones explains the concepts well and in greater detail then you will find elsewhere. There are lots of useful examples, tips and tricks.

This book devotes a lot of space to the query designer - this is the central tool for all SAP BI reporting - and covers it well. It has another two chapters on the report designer, a module that SAP is going to let die, so one might consider this bit a waste of space. The information broadcaster is also covered quite well and in sufficient detail.
Peter Jones decided to add a chapter for web reporting and the enterprise portal plus half a chapter each for the visual composer and integrated planning. I suspect he did this mainly, so he could say that he had covered all the front end tools.
Unfortunately the lack of space means these topics get short shrift, as you could easily fill a complete separate book for each of them. The VC and IP bits don't tell you much more than that these modules exist and why they might be interesting.

PJ has announced a book covering web reporting and as the Web Application Designer won't be replaced before 2013 (Business Objects Pioneer in the SDK version), I am definitely going to buy it.

So far the best in BI reporting

This is the book I've been looking for, I can easily find the information I need with detailed explanation and personal comment from the author, not only description of terms and collection of screens capture. This book shows that the author has a hands on experience in BI reporting. I recomment this book over SAP Press books with the same subject, and this one is cheaper from Amazon.com ;-)

Remarkably Clear And Comprehensive Mathematics Primer

Whether your personal focus is upon mathematics, engineering, physics, or even computer science or the arts, this work provides a superb instructional foundation for applied mathematics.

Beginning with differentiation and integration, the text continues on its mathematical journey, taking the reader through complex numbers, linear algebra, differential equations, even LaPlace transforms and Fourier series. It then ends with overview chapters on such varied topics as graph theory, set theory, boolean algebra, probability and statistics. In addition there is a section devoted to using symbolic computing with applications such as Mathematica, which are essential to anyone interested in learning or using mathematics today.

The overall look of the book is exquisite. The typefaces, equations and graphs are a pleasure to the eye (even as they grow substantially in complexity). The prose discusses the subject matter with rigor, yet is easy to read and guides gradually and carefully.

Anyone wishing to review the fundamentals of mathematics or to further the education started through school will find this book to be a joy to go through. Solutions to many exercises are provided in an appendix.

The softcover edition is highly durable. Upon completion of every chapter the reader will have substantial expertise in or exposure to major branches and topics of mathematics. For this wealth of information to have so low a cost is remarkable.

Highest possible recommendation, with superlative marks in virtually all categories of review.

** UPDATE FOR THIRD EDITION :

The formatting of the book has been changed subtly but noticeably, maintaining the original elegance. Content has been changed and restructured minimally.

Perhaps the most significant change, is that every one of the hundreds of exercises in the 41 chapters of this book has now been solved, and is available at the publisher's website in Acrobat (.PDF) format. The link is provided in the book itself.

Additionally, there are far more Mathematica projects than earlier editions, several per each chapter in fact, and again, programmatic-solutions for all of these are provided at another site, its link also in the book. These are in .NB (Mathematica NoteBook) format, and can be read by any text-editor including Notepad. They can also be viewed and tested using Mathematica Reader, a free program distributed by Mathematica's author, available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.

These significant updates fully address what was arguably the only previous weakness in this fine work.

Great coverage, good examples, a bible !

First, if you haven't noticed yet, this is NOT an advanced math book. Don't expect detailed demonstrations or complexe problems to solve. It is a global reference for engineers or anyone dealing with intermediate maths. If you want to explore the subjects covered in this book with deep details, you should buy a book per chapter.

The content is well divided in numerous chapters, each covering a specific field like geometry, linear and vector algebra, calculus, Laplace and Fourier transforms and series, statistics (less useful, a complete reference is better). The book starts with a good introduction recalling important concepts required to understand the following chapters (partial fractions expansion, functions, complex numbers, matrix, algebra, etc.) Once you master these, you can move throughout the chapters and master or revise the math techniques with the great examples (well explained, they generally cover most of the possible cases).

A complete set of problems with answers is available at the end of each chapter. The book is well illustrated, but a few graphs could have been more clear.

A great reference book for any math user. Complete, it is an extended summary of a dozen of other "specific subject" books.

Good text reference

If you need as few texts as possible that cover all the maths you need for engineering purposes, this book is a must buy. Adding Kreyzig's Advanced Engineering Mathematics and maybe a Statistics text to it and you should have no problems with 99% of the maths for the rest of your life (unless you want to do substantial computer program design, in which a discrete maths text may help).
A few problems though: a proper treatment on sequences and series is absent, l'Hopital's rule is not discussed either (both presumably because they are too pure maths for engineering, but some advanced engineering maths courses do use them), and there are some topics (like Simpson's rule) that are only discussed in problems sections but not in the main text.

The Ultimate Collection of One of America's Best!

This is your "one-stop shop" for every single one of Kate Chopin's published works. Large and cumbersome but well worth the weight, it contains all of her fantastic local color stories from her books "A Night in Acadie", "Bayou Folk", and all of her other short stories (including her very first written in childhood), plus the novels "At Fault" and "The Awakening". Most of her work was buried for years and it is difficult and expensive to get all of her wonderful creations, so this is the way to go for the ardent Chopin fan, the Chopin scholar, or anyone that just loves great American literature.(Note:it is also very uncommon to find a place that sells this!)

In the bayou

In the late 1800s, Kate Chopin set the literary world on fire with her now-classic novel "The Awakening." But that wasn't by any means the only writing Chopin did. "Complete Novels and Stories" brings together the assorted writings that Chopin did, before le scandale caused her to swear off writing forever.

Her first novel "At Fault" was apparently something of a roman a clef -- a thirtysomething Creole woman is widowed, and takes over the family estate. She falls in love with a businessman, David -- but he is divorced, and her strong Catholic beliefs don't allow her to marry a divorced man.

"Awakening" was the novel that outraged the Victorian morals and sensibilities of the time, and tragically ended Chopin's writing career. Beautiful wife and mother Edna Pontellier has it all: a wealthy husband, cute kids, beautiful house... and yet she is dissatisfied. So Edna begins dabbling in painting and extramarital flirtations, with tragic results.

"Bayou Folk" and a "Night in Acadie" are collections of short stories, centered in New Orleans and the areas of Louisiana nearby. Breakups, romance, death, marital dissatisfaction, freedom, racism and other still-touchy topics are explored in these stories, although bits of humor do intrude from time to time, such as the very short "Old Aunt Peggy," about an ancient black woman who astonishes everyone by never dying. Added on to these are a number of uncollected stories.

It takes a lot to make a book "scandalous" now, but in the late 1800s -- the height of the Victorian era -- it was painfully easy. There's nothing shocking in Chopin's writing by current standards, leaving her writing as a grave look at human nature. In that sense, Chopin's stories are truly timeless, and not just for women.

Continuing themes do run through Chopin's short stories and novels, such as freedom, social boundaries, and the restrictions put on women at the time. One particularly stunning story is "Desiree's Baby," about a young woman and her child who are cast out because the baby is not 100% white... except that her cruel husband has made a mistake.

But it's not nearly as bleak as it sounds -- Chopin's writing is tempered by her dignified, distant 19th-century writing style, and the beauty of her descriptions. ("There was the hum of bees, and the musky odor of pinks filled the air.") Those descriptions can gloss over plot events as grim as suicide.

"Complete Stories and Novels" is an excellent collection of Kate Chopin's work, and leaves one with regret that she didn't get to write even more during her brief lifetime.

So many people who have reviewed this anthology of Chopin's works have focused on only one story! "The Story of an Hour" is wonderful, but it's only about 2 pages in this large book. With that said, readers who are coming to Chopin for the first time should keep in mind that the protagonist's inner life is more important that anything else going on in that story. That's why there is so little about what happened before the husband supposedly dies and certainly very little after he arrives home safely. (The spoilers for the ending have already been given by earlier reviewers.) Readers can "get" a lot of it, though, just by reading very carefully. It's a "short" short story, and Chopin makes every word count. If you as a reader don't pay close attention to the words Chopin uses, you will miss the point. So, for someone who says, "I don't understand the story," I would say read it again, but more slowly this time.

The book, of course, has much more to offer than the few pages that "Hour" takes up. One of my favorites is "Desiree's Baby," where Chopin emphasizes character over plot in a story about racial prejudice. I won't tell you how it works out, though. You need to read it for yourself! Spoilers ruin the ends of stories that rely on a twist at the end.
