Master Math

Math is one of the subjects that most kids dislike. I can relate because when I am at their age, I also had hard times dealing with some mathematical problems and equations. I don't want this to happen to my kids that is why I am looking for some ways which can help them love this subject. I suddenly saw this book on my recommended list and I think it can really help them out. The book provided tips and techniques on how an individual can actually solve mathematical problems mentally, be it simple or complex. Readers won't have a hard time understanding it's content because it was provided in a simple and easy to understand manner. It is really great to read the tips on how to deal with trigonometry and calculus problems. I would recommend this book to everyone.

I loved calculations when I was a student but hated it ...

I think this book is the shortest book of Mathematics I have ever seen. Well, I guess this is an advance technique. I loved calculations when I was a student but hated it when I reached calculus in college. I know a lot of my cousins who are not so good in Mathematics. This book may help them, so I will give it a try to give them a copy of this book. It is a good book. When looking at the cover of this book, at first, I thought its cover photo is irrelevant to its content but I looked carefully and I found out that stuffs on the head are numbers. So, I think its cover is nice. If there will be revisions of this book, I hope they will add more techniques for other subject in Math since Math is broad.

An excellent textbook for financial accounting learner

About the Author
Albrecht D�rer (German: 21 May 1471 – 6 April 1528) was a German painter, engraver, printmaker, mathematician, and theorist from Nuremberg. His high-quality woodcuts (nowadays often called Meisterstiche or "master prints") established his reputation and influence across Europe when he was still in his twenties, and he has been conventionally regarded as the greatest artist of the Northern Renaissance ever since. His vast body of work includes altarpieces and religious works, numerous portraits and self-portraits, and copper engravings. The woodcuts, such as the Apocalypse series (1498), retain a more Gothic flavour than the rest of his work. His well-known prints include the Knight, Death, and the Devil (1513), Saint Jerome in his Study (1514) and Melencolia I (1514), which has been the subject of extensive analysis and interpretation. His watercolours also mark him as one of the first European landscape artists, while his ambitious woodcuts revolutionized the potential of that medium. D�rer's introduction of classical motifs into Northern art, through his knowledge of Italian artists and German humanists, has secured his reputation as one of the most important figures of the Northern Renaissance. This is reinforced by his theoretical treatises, which involve principles of mathematics, perspective and ideal proportions.

When I looked for this book it was because a friend of mine (his name is Joel) wanted me to get this, but he had a version somewhere on the inturn's net. I got this version because it was free and I have no money anyway to get the other one. Long story short, there are no pictures in this digital version.

Another glimpse at the Russian tradition, with fresh insights that don't disappoint

As the natural successor to the award winning Fundamentals of Drawing, this book on the Fundamentals of Painting improves upon it in a series of ways, mainly in its size (roughly 20% bigger), but also in its English translation. It does however leave a few things out from the previous one which, without hindering the overall quality of the final product, could have increased the value of the book.

The outline and structure is basically the same. The purpose of the book is laid out for the reader in a clear and objective way, and step-by-step processes are described on each of the books exercises, which are: a head portrait, a portrait with hands, a nude figure and an old master copy.

These examples always come accompanied with master paintings of different periods and styles, effectively showing how artists throughout the ages solved the same problems in composition, structure, color, etc. I cannot at this moment attest to the quality (resolution) of these images as I do not yet possess the physical book, however the PDF version, which its main purpose is to provide the international reader with a way to understand the teacher's methods, has had its images greatly improved. I can only imagine the quality of the physical book will have suffered the same improved treatment.

There are two things missing from the previous book, which I mentioned before as slightly disappointing. The "Commom mistake" tips present on almost every page of the Fundamentals of Drawing are missing. These tips were generally right on target , stressing the most important aspects of each step and helping reinforce the idea or concept to be taught in a single, memorable phrase.

The second is the lack of an image library for the student in the end, which expanded upon the images accompanying and introducing each chapter. While this book does have more images than the Fundamentals of Drawing, with an excllent selection ranging from several Holbein portraits to Titian and an assortment of Russian masters, it would have been nice, if possible, to provide the student with even more images to expand and enrich his library of examples to study from, extending also the lifespan of the book itself as a tool for learning.

It should be noted that this book is not a "Methods and Materials" handbook, and isn't a complete guide to beginners on how to paint. It doesn't contain in-depth instructions on how to stretch a canvas or how to prepare a tempera paint. As with the Fundamentals of Drawing, it serves to fill a gap in the painting instruction manuals, while also bringing fresh new insights from the Russian academy on painting basics such as color relationships, light and shade, etc. There are many books on materials and technique out there, but few that tackle the actual process of painting in a clear and practical manner. This is an indispensable tool for the beginner artist, who many times may find himself lost in how to approach a painting.

I believe this book successfully achieves its goal to give the fundamentals of the painting process to the beginner student, in the most practical way possible. Again, not a single page is wasted here, putting the reader right into the practice of painting from the beginning. In a sense, it's closer to the treatises of the past, like Cennino Cennini's or Leonardo's than the bulk of books on painting on the shelves today.
