Not worth the Price

This is the same exact book as the First edition; I bought both because my teacher insisted on the second edition and there was literally no difference so I completely wasted 100 bucks compared to the first edition which is less than 50.

Based on pure content alone though this is a great book.

Excellent Introductory Level Textbook

It is difficult to find a neuroscience textbook that is both informative and easy and fun to read. The editor for this textbook accomplishes this beautifully. My only complaint is that in paring down the size of the textbook from the first edition to the second edition, they sacrificed some details that I feel are still essential for understanding how neural pathways work. Overall, though, if you are looking for an introduction to the field without too many boring technical details, this textbook is perfect for you.

This is a well organized and updated book. However, it treats some time-honored findings as new, because neuroimaging studies have been made on them. To give a better sense of what is known about memory functions, it ought to be giving better linkages to cognitive psychology studies that had similar findings 20-40 years ago.

I must have compared a number of different Hesiod translation before finding Stanley Lombardo's!

At once I felt at peace with my searching struggle and was extremely happy with his version!

He has presented the "Theogony" and "Works & Days" in a way that makes for easy and pleasurable reading, with a realistic power and a believability in Hesiod himself.

Not only that but he has taken the time to seperated each text into paragraphs and sections, and has given each section a title for quick reference and artistic aesthetic!

I love this beautiful edition!

Words of Wisdom from an Everyday Rustic

Hesiod's Theogony was the best known poem in antiquity and the single greatest summary of the Greek gods and the theological tradition of Archaic Greece (800-480 B.C.) Its origins are based in oral tradition and the poem itself is structured in run-composition with framed episodes that use repetitious formulas. Due to its structure, the narrative can shift suddenly from one topic to another, thus leading to inconsistencies in the gods' parentage. The Theogony is a succession myth that explains how generations of patriarchal gods overthrow each other until one god consolidates power. Therefore, the story has a linear progression, but it also has a cyclical element since each generation represents a reincarnation of previous generations that all try to keep their children secluded from power. Four main themes in the Theogony include: the concern for the displacement of elders, the frustration of gender politics, the folktale element of moral messages, and the concern of sexual excess demonstrated by the gods.

Hesiod also wrote Works and Days which was a poem to his brother who had squandered his share of their father's inheritance. Throughout the poem, Hesiod outlines practical guidelines for basic living. He also gives examples of Greek cosmogony such as the Ages of Man that is not found elsewhere in Greek literary sources. Scholars have described Hesiod's worldview as apocalyptic and pessimistic, but Hesiod's stern dealings with his brother occasionally give way to a more lighthearted tone which Lombardo emphasizes in modern prose.

Both translations are enlightening reads and Lombardo gives extensive, useful notes, and Robert Lamberton provides an excellent introduction that outlines Hesiod's life and his poems.

Hesiod for pleasure? You bet!

At first I found the voice Lombardo uses for "Works and Days" a little off-putting. I mean, you don't expect an ancient Greek poet to come off like one of Huck Finn's more literate relatives. But as I continued reading, and, indeed, I had a hard time stopping, I was convinced this really was Hesiod's voice, at least for this group of poems and proverbs. He's a rustic, cranky know-it-all who's also quite entertaining. "Theogony" is more formal and stately, but as with Lomboardo's recent "Iliad" and "Odyssey", compulsively readable. In this volume, Hesiod is more pleasurable to read than I had imagined possible. Bravo!

Don't Be Hoodwinked

Black People Don't Read is one of those books that you read from cover to cover but in the process you are analyzing all of the numerical data surrounding each theory. What I loved the most about the book is when Janks said, "Never trust a Man (or woman) who quotes a statistic that ends in either five or zero." Wow that is definitely real talk. By the way this quote is taken from the chapter entitled Hoodwinked. Another highlight of the book is it reads as if Janks and Ivory are having an open discussion with everyone. Call and response is all I can say.

A word from one of the Editors

I volunteered to help proof this title after seeing how provocative the truth about the state of Black America can be firsthand on Facebook when the Author Janks Morton started posting pictograms from his Film Production "Hoodwinked" which is available now on Amazon and is premiering in a few select venues around the country. This book, a companion piece to the movie, actually came about because of how much the information it contains provoked people to express their views. The following are my comments regarding the title which I believe succinctly provides an adequate review.

I like to look at the title as a double entendr�. firstly, the stereotypes "Black People Don't Read", "Black People Don't Swim", etc. are all meant to demean us, but more importantly change how we view our selves, to collectively lower our self-esteem, and to negatively affect how the rest of the world sees us. In this book Mr. Morton very directly and with extensive attention to detail, dispels the lies and equips us to spread the truth with facts from established and credentialed sources, including the very government and media who misinterprets and conveniently omits or manipulates this data.

The second possible meaning is as a warning because many of us Black People have allowed our minds to be conditioned and lulled to sleep with grim lullabies for so long that they now find the inferior stereotypes comforting and cling to them with ferocity and if you are one of those "Black People Don't Read" this book! But truthfully, I only helped in the editing; and for the real insight I, of course, defer completely to the author and I know he has already explained the choice of title many times. What sticks out most in my memory from his explanations, is that the title should shock and provoke you to action (so long as that action is not to judge this cover by your own preconceived notion of what it means and read the pages to truly find out). I think it's a great title for a profoundly necessary book. Once again, KUDOS! to my friend Janks Morton on a great companion piece to your profoundly necessary productions! Thank you for your efforts at uplifting our peoples!

I am expecting to receive a signed copy as a gift for helping with the editing/proofreading but I wanted to buy a copy myself to help support not only the author of this important book but the ideals he promotes, as I said earlier, herein and in the movie currently playing "Hoodwinked", to which this book is an accompaniment. The movie and the book both brilliantly dispel the lies about the black man and woman presented by the media and special interests, and Janks Morton and Dr. Ivory Toldson powerfully and compellingly present the true data and statistics and explains where and how it is misused and misinterpreted (intentionally or unintentionally/maliciously or benignly) to promulgate black inferiority, and how all of us unwarily eat it up. This is a powerful documentary that will at worse enlighten and entertain you and at best will motivate you towards introspection and corrective action with the empowerment of truth. Kudos to Janks Morton for being a powerful motivator and activist in the truest sense!

Specifically the book addresses and disputes with statistical data the negativity surrounding the lives of African Americans, particularly African American males.If we listen to the media and believe only what is spoon-fed to us, then we would further perpetuate those same myths about our own people.Some of those myths include there being more Black men incarcerated than enrolled in colleges and universities. The data comes from U.S. Census Bureau, the Department of Justice, Department of Education as well as other agencies that provide statistics on the state of Black people in America. Authors, Dr, Ivory Toldson and Janks Morton more than adequately refute the preponderance of distorted information which chips away at the psyche and identity of black men. Book has several significant errors within the first 74 pages

I have been reading this book and following along with the steps, however, thus far (within the first 74 pages)I have encountered several "significant" errors, incorrect Menus,wrong screenshots, omitted procedure steps.
I am not going to list the errors here because I am sure that the Authors (and their FRIENDS) knew or should have known that the errors are there. It is obvious that no one tested all of the steps in the FI section.

For once I wish that "someone" would tell the absolute truth about these books when posting their reviews; so that consumers will know upfront what they are getting before hand!

If you buy this book, I guarantee you that you will encounter these errors within the first 74 pages of this book!!!!

What you do need to know about FICO.

Very good indeed. A good case study. You can learn FICO from theory and practice. Small errors: command paths, company codes mixed.
In CO, it is a pitty there is nothing about CO-PC (material ledger) and could be included more information regarding Report Painter and Substitution/Validation rules.
No doubt it is worth buying. It is valuable for newcomers and experient consultants.

The book is very good.

I have heard that the books of SAP Press have errors, but that (it isn't from SAP books) is very good, the author explain very well, he writes in a way that the reader understands clearly.
It was an excellent purchase.
